Best way to find a mortgage broker?

Morning all, would appreciate some help if you can!
Currently looking at finding out how much myself and my boyfriend could possibly borrow, as well as whether we can actually get a mortgage!
I would rather speak to a broker, as my boyfriend has a default from Three (£114), which was registered in 2014. As soon as I found out about it last year I paid it off in full, so it is now satisfied. He was pretty poor at managing his credit years ago with late payments on a Barclays loan (2013 time), however it is now repaid. He now has an aqua credit card, which has just had the limit increased so his credit does seem to be improving.
The issue I have, is how do I find a mortgage broker who will advise us properly on these things? I don't trust googling 'bad credit mortgage brokers' as most of the results are dubious to say the least. It's such a big thing for us and no idea where to start! The local estate agent mortgage broker has no experience in dealing with any defaults so I'd rather not waste my money there!
Any advice would be massively appreciated :-)

You should be fine with that to be honest and should have a decent selection of lenders to chose from.
You can find brokers on here or you can use sites like trust pilot for recommendations. I prefer to receive my business from existing customers who recommend me to friends and family. I'm sure the same will be the same for many other brokers on here.I am a Mortgage & Protection Broker
MSE doesn't check my status so you have to take my word for it. Any information posted is for discussion only and should not be seen as advice. I am FCA Registered, registration details available on request.0
