I&E -are there guidelines

Hi, I have to fill in an I&E. Are there any guidelines or approximate amounts. For example, I read that for household costs you can say 30-35 pounds a week. Is that for adults? And what is reasonable for phone costs etc. I could really do with some help..

    Hi Tinkerbell
There are, as far as I know, guidelines on this in the insolvency services website, however I dont know how to post a link (I'm a bit of a computer dunce!) but I'm sure someone who does will be along shortly.

Why don't you do an income and expenditure, post it here and state who its for (how many adults/children/pets etc) and then we can have a look and tell you if/where you might be going wrong.

    Hope that helps

The are guidelines, but the figures the OR works from can vary depending on where you live. This is especially so in categories like housekeeping that will vary significantly with the cost of living in different parts of the country.

Some average figures based upon national statistics are given below, but these are the ones used by the debt/finance industry as a whole and HMRC and are a bit low compared to those that the OR can sometimes allow. (I think they may also be a bit out of date).

As Claire says, there are some more detailed guidelines for some areas of expenditure in the link below:

But yes, probably the best idea is to post up details of your I&E so that those of us who have had the OR go through our own can comment on how it might be received by the OR.
