Please help i am sat here really panicking i have done an experian credit search for my husband ( with his knowledge he asked me too) and i have found an old debt on there relating back to 2004 it had missed payments on it . My biggest worry now is that i have now input our present address so does that mean that the debt collectors can see the present address and contact us? We are really srtuggling at the moment as i have recently been made redundant and my husbands job isn't that well paid and it will really hit us hard to have a debt collector on the door. I am now dreading my husband coming home and having to tell him this as he only just getting over a bad bout of depression. Sorry to waffle but really upset. Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Sorry, I don't know the answer, but I wouldn't thin that experian would tell your creditors your current address. I'm sure someone with more precise information will be along shortly.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

I wouldnt worry too much at the moment.
I assume you are on the voting register? They are more than capable of finding details from that anyways, so this wont have any impact.
Also id imagine that the experian people would tend not to alert creditors of any searches done by yourself, they would wait until any such companies do any checks.0 -

No ~ they shouldn't because its against the DPA.
HOWEVER, the unscrupulous DCA's and tracing agents do get their hands on this info so in reality yes, if you link your new address to the report the DCA can find you.:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Thanks for the info tigtag so am i right in thinking that debt collectors don't have authorised access to your credit report?I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

Also we aren't on the voting register and i wondered how long we could stay off it for. Is it a legal requirement to be on it?I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

Again, I don't know the precise answer, but I think it is a legal requirement. Well we have the form asking for all residents in the house of legal voting age, and we get into trouble if we don't return the form.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

Since what's done is done, why not face it head on, and do your budget and speak to one of the debt advice charities and see what they say. At least that way you'd be doing something positive rather than panicking.0

Hi
Irrespective of whether you knew about the debt, it has been there for anyone doing a credit check to see for ages.
Panicking is not going to do you or your OH any good at all.
Even if the DCA does pick up on the credit search and your new address, it will be along time before they can come knowcking on your door, and you will have lots of opportunties to sort it out before that happens.
