Do you have any form of transport? I had a sofa and a car .... I paid £5 for a saw. As a pathetic/weak/clueless person it took me 1 hour of "easy/laid back graft" to completely saw that into a billion small pieces and take it to the tip.

At the tip it's no longer a sofa, so no tipping charge either ... it was just bits of wood and springs and a bit of fabric.

If it's in decent enough condition, try offering it on Freecycle, or to a charity shop.

British Heart Foundation will collect free, but mattress needs to be in good condition and have NO stains or tears; or try http://www.furnituredonationnetwork.org/what-we-take

Put it on Freecycle or on Facebook

Take it into the back garden and cut it up into quarters and then stick a match to the bits. Job done. lmao Then dump any metal bits/springs in the rubbish.

Have a look on your local gumtree for "man with van" who offers removals.

Do check they have a registered licence to dispose of waste.

Should come in cheaper than the council.

Ever tried to burn a mattress which is flame retardant...? Really not worth the hours of effort!

To say nothing of the toxic gases... but why should you care about polluting other people's air?

There are alternative options like mattress recycling. Recycling a mattress is something which everyone of us might not know. The wood, cotton, foam and metal springs that make up the mattress are all luckily recyclable.

If you are purchasing a new mattress, you can talk to that business, about taking your old one to be recycled. Many mattress stores offer free mattress disposal option, only if you buy a new one from them. If you aren't purchasing a new mattress, there are a few options that isn't difficult. There are some charity organizations, that will pick up your old mattress for reuse, this is a very rare option.
There are also mattress recyclers, who will pick up your mattress for a fee. If you are looking to recycle your mattress by that way, you will have to drop it off at their designated location.

What! You do realise how toxic that is?
