hi guys i am newbie on here and posted my SOA recentley. since then i am out of work as juggling childcare with being a single parent and my profession as a nurse seem to clash. have been looking at bank shifts but all start early and i have no child care before 0730. any way feeling at rock bottom. my outgoings are £1500 a month and am in a right state about how i am going to manage next month. i have been applying for jobs as teaching assistants in schools as this would be more child friendly hours but wheels are turning very slowly. feel very desperate.. please any advice..

i've been at rock bottom a few times in my colourfull life, if i get there again i can now take comfort in knowing the only way to go from there is up0

whilst i know it is not ideal, what about admin work in the hospital? Or other jobs there? I thought that there were ways of staying in nursing now ie doing days, as they were desparate to retain staff. Is that on offer at the hospitals near you?
best of luck
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Welcome to MSE and I am sorry you are feeling so down ~ I hope that we can help you turn that around.
If you want to continue being a nurse then you must look at EVERY childcare option there is.
I presume at the mo you use daycare/morning or after school club or childminder due to 730am being the earliest time you can leave the kiddo's.
have you looked into the childcare provider coming into your home? Nanny, etc?
Just the first thought that sprang to mind

Hi
Have you contacted the agencies rather then just your local bank?
Is there anyone - even the other parent- who would look after your child overnight?
You could bring in £16,000 plus for two night shifts, plus get WTC and CTC to help you out.
Also if you re=post your SOA, people can help you reduce your spends a bit.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hi mrs pinkybinks, I am a nurse too and understand the pressures of finding childcare for the unsociable hours. It has made me think that there is a big hole of childcare during the hours of 6pm and 6am.Many nurses have to work nights on the rota and have no childcare as nurseries and childminders are closed at this time.Is this something you could do, get yourself registered as a childminder and provide care for unsociable hours, beleive me no one does it you would have lots of clients and I bet you allready know lots of people who would use you due to your work at the hospital. This is a great business opportunity, if it was available I would use it.I have to farm mine out to relatives when me and OH are both on lates or nights.0

hi thanks for replies so far. In reponse to these i dont use a childminder as i am struggling with guilt of having to leave my daughter who is 3 whilst i go to work at 7 am. i try to do shifts that start at 8am and rely on a friend to take her to nursery. i am unable to work nights as i have no overnight childcare . i thought about becoming a registered childminder but was unsure if i could do this as i rent privately. i am currntly looking into agency work but am sure they will still want unsocial hours. would like to get into teaching assistant work . any suggestions

Sending you a hug, I am not in your situation so cannot begin to know how you feel although I have had my own lows recently, I like you also have a beautiful 3 yr old and tbh she is what keeps me going, I just have to look at her when the going gets tough and then I realise its all worthwhile, as someone said on here the only way is up, take care.0
