help please! i've got lots of fruit & veg to make into jam& chutney but no more jars with metal lids.
i have got some douwe egbert coffee jars -the ones with glass lids can i use them? they have plastic inside lid to make the seal so not sure if it would work.
only other jars i've got have plastic lids is there any way i can use them?
i've run out of room in the freezer so need to use the stuff quickly

hi donna,
not sure if you are "supposed" to use them, but i have done so in the past very successfully, for both jams and chutneys. made sure i washed them well and then heated in oven (not the lids, lol) for 10 mins. the lids i poured boiling water over and left to cool, and then potted chutney etc while chutney and jars still hot, and then also put lids straight on. you can test for a good seal at the time.:DOf all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.....0 -
Me too, used all sorts of jars in the past, very successfully, and treated them just like cannylass says with the addition of one of those little waxed paper discs on the top. I can't see any reason the Douwe Egberts jars shouldn't make a tight seal.0
