I am currently stuck at Dublin port after our ferry was cancelled due to bad weather. We booked our rail and sail trip with Virgin trains from Belfast to London, and Virgin rails is responsible for the whole journey but individual companies manage different parts of the trip. Irish ferries cancelled our ferry from Dublin to Holyhead and we have to wait until the next one at 9 tonight. That gets us into Holyhead after midnight and there's no trains until 7 a.m.
I called Virgin trains who after ages on hold, stupid non helpful bull said that we needed to buy new tickets for tomorrow despite us already having tickets today valid from Belfast to London. It'll cost us £150 each... What's worse is that they won't refund our tickets because they say we used them! So we're down £250 for the initial tickets, £150 for the new tickets and the prospect of being stuck in Holyhead overnight.
Do we have any rights? Virgin Trains say it's the ferries fault and the ferries say virgin trains is responsible for everything as we bought the tickets from them.
Seriously any help or advice would be great

If you take the later ferry, will the Holyhead rail staff put you in a hotel?

There are trains sporadically through the night. Remember it is the Monday morning timetable you would be looking at not Sunday morning:

When delays occur you may take the next available train(s).
Get on the train with the tickets; I'm sure the Guard will be fine with it.0 -
