me and my wife are currently in an iva with a debt company and pay £90 a month to be shared out to pay off our debts, last year my wife was diagnosed with lung cancer and i was wondering if there is anything we can do to reduce/clear our debt as my wife has cancer?

Hi OP - do you mean can the debt be wiped, due to your wife's condition?
I doubt it.
Does your wife have any critical illness cover / life insurance?0 -
Hi,
Sorry to hear about your situation, how far through the IVA are you ?
If your near the end, your creditors may accept all payments to date as full and final settlement, but you would need to be at least 4 years in to even think about this option.
I'm assuming your debts are joint debts, if you have any just in your wife's name, should the IVA fail for any reason, you could write to each creditor explaining the health situation, and asking them to write off the debt.
Basically you would be at the creditors mercy, they don't have to do anything, but you wont know unless you try.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
