    Who/what is Nursie? :)
  • Quick trip to the ‘Lottie today, and I couldn’t help noticing that my Cavollo Nero looks very sad; wind-burnt? Brown edges to the leaves, & a bit wilty. But the Red Russian & Curly varieties of that-which-we-do-not-mention in front of Mardatha were looking spry & perky, as were the leeks. I think we need to plant something down the eastern edge; we’re sheltered from the south & west, and will be from the north when the currant cuttings get going, but the east is wide open to any passing icy blasts.

We did see a few little flakes of snow earlier! But it didn’t stay around for long. However, I can smell it coming now, so I’m beginning to believe we will get some. Looking at the Met Office’s warning map, it carefully skirts around us on Wednesday, but we cop it big-time on Thursday. Possibly...

TW that bloody sewage is indestructible. Imagine what it does to yer insides!
  • I'm wearing an extra layer and my ridiculous boots this week. Our snow hasn't really got going yet, I should be fine as long as public transport is running - for work that is, we have what we need at home.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that a long-running forumite such as yourself has never encountered Nursie. She's such a long-running character that others have been kind enough to play with the gag. Nursie has even travelled internationally, imposing herself upon the good nature of ex-pat Brit forum member Softstuff, out on Australia's Gold Coast.:rotfl:

Nursie is............ hard to describe. Conjure an image of Nurse Gladys Emmanuel from Open All Hours. Imagine she and Ghengis Khan could somehow have got together to raise a girl child. Gift said girl with a psychotic temper, enrol her in the special forces for a few years, then allocate her to someone with a [STRIKE]loopy[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]variable[/STRIKE] err mischievous sense of humour to be a fantasy household companion.

Nursie normally lurks in my broom cupboard with Henri d'Vac but is presently on detatched duty; I've allowed her to go back on holiday with her old muckers from the regiment. They were last seeing buying arctic-grade military equipment, tickets to Seoul and muttering that the Fat Boy gets it............ your newspapers will tell you when.

So now you're in on the gag. If you breathe a word about Nursie once she and the gang have done the deed in PY, they may have to kill you.

  • This morning I have put the GCH on for the first time this winter, apart from testing purposes and briefly when I came back from my winter holiday. Normally I just rely on the wood burner in the lounge and occasionally a blast from an electric fan when there is spare power from the solar panels, which has been quite a bit in these last few bright days.

    Oh, the shame.

I'm also wearing one of my skiing base layers. As I've pointed out to new skiers some of the gear can come in handy at other times, even on the sunny South coast.
