THE Prepping thread - a new beginning :)

Neither am I Ivyleaf but we're certainly in a 'time of change' with Brexit and all that entails, climate change, changing growing conditions even here in the UK will mean different crops and methods of preserving/storing foods. Should there ever be glitches with oil or even the predicted 'end of the oil age' we'd need low tech people fuelled ways of doing things. I even throw the new President of the US into the mix as an unpredictable element in this world and who knows what his actions will precipitate? It's an uncertain time for humanity as a whole and perhaps the information in our little old thread may prove useful if it's available for easier access?
Thanks Karmakat that's an extremely useful suggestion, 100 pages would be just about the right sized chunk for a single person to tackle at a time. All we'd need is an index with the information covered and the post number in the old thread, that ought to do the job wouldn't it?0 -
I think it's a very common danger that when everything chunters along ok for a few years, people get lazy and unwary.. Am just saying !0

Here's something I've not come across before....
I have just been to see the nurse at the surgery. I have an infected insect bite and a lump on my leg the size of an egg! Due to the meds I'm on for various things, I have an extremely low immune system.
She thinks there might still be a bit of the insect in the wound so, to 'draw it out', has slapped on a ready-made dressing comprising of simply - MANUKA HONEY. I knew honey was meant to help but didn't realise that the NHS are now using it. Have googled it and it appears you can get medical grade manuka honey - what would be the difference between 'medical' and 'toast' honey?:j[DFW Nerd club #1142 Proud to be dealing with my debt:TDMP start date April 2012. Cost...
And an auditable supply chain.0 -
Yip, cost. You can buy medihoney yourself. I have seen that brand supplied via the NHS but in my experience it's something that has to be fought for.
Lyn there's so much information on the last thread that exceeds just being useful. I would love to see an index but I wouldn't expect anyone to go through and organise it because it's a mammoth task that I would shy away from myself. Boy, do we need it though.0 -
I suppose you need something like the Grocery Challenge thread, which has a master index of recipes? One life - your life - live it!0

Just in case anyone does want to read through the old Prepping thread it's called 'PREPAREDNESS FOR WHEN', I've just revisited the first 20 odd pages and there IS a lot of information there so might be worth a refresh and dip in?0

A couple of years ago I came home from holiday with a bad mosquito bite which I had to see the nurse practitioner about and she treated it with a honey dressing. It reminded me I had watched a vets programme where they poured runny honey into a dogs wound to help it heal.
I googled the honey dressings at the time and they were very expensive. Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0 -
I'm up for a bit of extracting & collating relevant info/tips & tricks from the old thread, and this one, too; any other volunteers apart from myself, MrsLW & Karmacat?
ETA: the more, the merrier! But we will have to agree the exact meaning of "relevant"...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I'll help out too thrifty. How shall we go about the task?0
