I have a query ... two queries. As per the Iceland stock up - I'm going to have a concerted effort at fermenting some veg, and dehydrating others. I've started dehydrating. All my info has come from blogs - but I want a single book on each. Preferably a book I can buy on ebay, as I have some paypal money I can use. What would people recommend?

I've got several. Still not feeling able to focus enough on food to crack on with trying them out...

....but the one that looks by far the easiest/most approachable of them is "Fermenting food step by step" by Adam Elabd.

Mary bells complete dehydrator cookbook is good.
It has info about drying meat as well as fruit and veg and suggested times and temperatures which my dehydrator instruction book didn't have .

  • Karmacat, we started off with Sandor Katz's Wild Fermentation and have since progressed to his Art of Fermentation. As long as you can interpret American, they're very readable & do-able.

It's American-based - but some of it is relevant here in Britain. Unfortunately - it's difficult to avoid buying from Amazon these days (particularly if living somewhere more remote).

But - the thing I've zeroed in on here is re those Amazon Echo gadgets. It hadn't occurred to me that getting one of those would equate to buying your own "spy in the home listening device". - but I see his point on that.

EDIT; Can't think why link doesnt work. Try:

  • What on earth is an Amazon ECHO device
  • Had some snow here today.

Not very heavy, and rather wet (as is the ground), so, fortunately, it hasn't stuck.

:) We actually had some snow overnight, not much, the grass was still visible through the snow. Looked like it had fallen and then frozen. The rain today melted it all.

Hope there isn't more overnight which might make people's morning journeys treacherous.
