Getting money for clothing

My husband and I are de-cluttering our clothes and have piles! My hatchback is stuffed to the roof with bags of clothes, a lot hardly or never worn and there is going to be loads more soon.
I had a bad experience going to a charity shop in the past - they refused to help me unload the car, and when I returned to the shop with a second load, I heard them arguing in the back as to what they were going to keep for themselves. I assume charity begins at home!
I am mobility challenged (can't walk far or carry too much), neither do I have the time to sell on eBay (too many items and not enough room to store until sold) so was thinking of contacting one of these places that offer money per kilo. I know some of them have had bad reviews, but was wondering if anyone here had a reasonable experience of any. At least they will collect at the house, even if I don't get much back. It would at least save me time and fuel for many journeys.
I have found one site called Bob'scash4clothes.com which appears to offer immediate cash, but cannot find any reviews on it.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

You will be paid an absolute pittance for them this way - they don't care if they are not worn, and you will find most pay around 30-50p per kilo.
Why not see if you have a local business that lists on ebay for you (they also store the items, and post them for you in exchange for either a fixed fee or a percentage of the price sold for); most towns have them, and with you having a large amount perhaps they would collect?
You could also ask family or friends for help?
As an aside, it usually takes around 2 minutes to list an item on ebay mobile, so even at 5 items a week, that's only 10 minutes, and you could also get a courier company to collect from your address, or perhaps ask your partner to post them?0 -
If you don't have the time you could always consider just splitting into size/sex bundles and putting on eBay collection only. You're possibly more likely to find someone who is in need, hence looking locally to save on postage, and you won't have to worry about packaging/couriers/lugging somewhere in your car.
Also, these companies nowadays (cash4clothes for example) pay from 10p-50p a kilo and they will check through almost with a fine tooth comb. They usually reject 'old' clothing, even if it is in good condition. So there isn't even a guarantee that they will take the clothes. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I would just rather leave a pile of stuff in the middle of a non traffic road with a sign saying
'help yourslef' than sell to the scam merchants for 30p a kilomake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I know lots of charity shops are staffed by volunteers of varied quality but you seem to have been very unlucky with the nastiness of the staff you encountered when you tried to donate before:eek:. I feel really sad that what was intended as kindness on your part ended so badly.
All I can say is that there are probably several other charity shops local to you. Why not try another one? Also, maybe take less than a car full when you go as it would be easier for all concerned to cope with;). I know it's more time and petrol but more people will benefit in the long run.
Is there a branch of the Salvation Army anywhere near you? Even if they don't have a shop they often need clothes to distribute to people down on their luck etc. Do you have a Women's Refuge anywhere nearby? They are always very grateful for good, clean clothes as often the poor women who seek sanctuary there often arrive with only the clothes they are wearing at the time. I'd recommend a phone call first rather than just turning up with a car full.0 -
Never used them myself, but what about trying someone like these?

or google 'ebay trading assistant' to have a look through various people who will sell on ebay on your behalf.0 -
Take them to a homeless shelter or refugee camp? Or offer them on Freecycle - even if you don't want to make money from them, someone from there would sell them on for a profit I'm sure, either at a car boot or online.Minimalist

I agree with carbootcrazy's suggestions. The charity shop near me is great and has taken loads of my clothes over the years.0

I've got about 6 bin bags' worth of tatty old clothes (certainly not 'vintage'). There used to be a place in Manchester which exchanged cash for such items but AFAIK it's gone. Does anyone know of another one in Manchester? Thx---

Sounds as if you're looking for an old fashioned "rag and bone" man.
There will probably be at least one "cash for clothes" type place in the city, but they want clothes in good condition which can be sold on. Price they pay is around 40p per kilo.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
