washing machine woes

My trusty Bosch washing machine's decided to misbehave. I've had it about 7 or 8 years now, and very recently I've noticed that when it spins it makes a bumping rattling noise. It's intermittent, and sometimes the rattling noise is worse/louder than at other times. Earlier this morning it sounded like I was washing a load of bricks
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this, and if it's ok to use the machine still? :undecided
Just hoping we don't need to replace the machine, as we don't have £400-odd right now
(ETA have posted this again on the DIY board, perhaps more suitable than OS!)

Mine started doing this recently and it turned out there was something (ok several things, from my pockets) in the pump.
Bosch chappy only had to listen for about 3s to fix it, and i'd know how to do it now.
If you have a panel at the bottom front, the pump is probs in there, unscrew, remove any crud, do back up and quick cycle to check0 -
Thanks!
The drainage pump filter-thingy can be accessed from the front. I will check it out. It could probably do with a clean anyway!0
