What foods contain wheat?

Options
For a number of years I have been unable to eat bread as It leaves me feeling ill and my stomach very bloated. I wandered if anyone can suggest an alternative and tell me what other foods contain wheat that may be worth me avoiding. TIA. :D

  • even though you get bloated & ill have you lost weight
  • I have been losing weight slowly since last year but it was intentional.
  • usually with the 'wheat' thing its either, & this could be for any foodstuff, if we eat too much of any substance we can have overload & build up an intolerance to that foodstuff - well thats how my homeopath explained it to me - he had a client who said she ate a balanced diet which consisted of toast for breakfast, sandwich for lunch & pasta for dinner - or it could be a gluten intolerance, this is the substance in wheat that reacts in the gut

I only know from experience as my Aunt was a Coeliac (intolerant to gluten) & I was like you & have suffered with wheat bloat & indigestion for years, but I recently took a test for Coeliac & it came back negative - so I'm getting to know my trigger foods & try to avoid as much as poss i.e. only bread at weekends

as for wheat - the obvious culprits are any form of bread, pastry, cakes, pasta, pies - the sneaky ones are in processed foods like stock cubes, soups , sauces & sauce mix
  • Thanks for replying. I had noticed in the past that bread made me ill and so now I very rarely eat it but recently I am still getting the same symtoms from other foods but haven't been able to work out which ones. When my stomach bloats I look like I am about 6 months pregnat and I find it very embarassing! I don't get indigestion but I do feel very sick. I am not sure where to ask for advice about this. Should I visit GP or a homeopath (not really sure what that is! lol.) In the meantime I will avoid the other foods you have mentioned and see if this helps.
  • a homeopath is someone who practices health using supplements & natural healing, but if you're feeling sick I would definitely see your GP - you could try reading info on the coeliac uk website to see if it rings any bells with your situation, but I reiterate only a GP can confirm if thats what you are - good luck

whats wheat in? Everything! Well thats how it feels! I'd suggest you get yourself tested before cutting out wheat religiously as its a real pain as it crops up everywhere.

Homeopathy is a complimentary therapy. Homeopaths do not use supplements as such. The therapy is based on the theory of treating "like with like". Homeopathic remedies are highly diluted natural substances that, if given in stronger doses to a healthy person, would produce the symptoms the medicine is prescribed for. In the assessment of the patient, homeopaths will take into account the range of physical, emotional and lifestyle factors in order to prescribe the right medicine(s).

Google "homeopathy" and you'll find lots of info.

Don't forget to check labels on everything if you want to avoid wheat, you'd be surprised what you find it in!

Many people cut back on wheat and find they feel better (myself included). Being a coeliac is a different, far more seroius situation, if it makes you feel that bad, I agree you should be tested. Look out for free/cheap session at a local pharmacy or ask your GP.

There are some hucksters out there who do claim to be able to this- they tell everyone the same carp - no wheat, dairy, white sugar or pork...and some people are duped as after cutting out bacon sarnies and builders tea, they lose weight (No s**t!). So make ysure you get it done properly.
  • If you are getting bloating it could be not the wheat but the yeast in the wheat product you are eating.
Most people eat far to much wheat and become sensitised to it giving them all sorts of food problems.
I am a coeliac so avoid wheat as it contains gluten. I find most products now are allergy labelled if they contain wheat so it should be easy to spot it.
Sainsbury's is very good for this.
Most places now have a "free from" section which should have all wheat free stuff.
Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.
