I have decided to try and off load some of our useless stuff at home to help get us out of a short term hole. I have a diamond to sell that was given to me, i was told it had a value of about £400. where on earth do I go to sell it so i won't be ripped off.
any help would be most appreciated.

You can sell things on ebay, but diamond rings are selling extremely cheaply on there (I expect it is much the same for individual diamonds), and you would only get a fraction of its value.
I'm really not sure what to suggest where it is concerned. Maybe a jeweller would buy it off you?0 -
Check the markings with a reference book from your local library,
do a little research before stepping out would be my advice,
they say not to polish it also,
I bought a silver table spoon for 50p from a charity shop that im sure will be my nest egg someday
