snap on smile

I have been somewhat embarrassed by my teeth after an accident during my teens. Recently thinking of getting veneers for the top front 10 teeth.

I have been quoted £2,450 (composite veneers 4-8 years life) and £4,200 (porcelain veneers 12-25 years).

I am curious how it would be, but cautious about spending this sum plus time if it doesn't work for me

One dentist suggested a "snap on smile" - which is a bit like a gum shield and lasts 18-24 months and takes 2 visits. I think it can slip in place and you can eat, drink and talk with them. She quoted £800.

Anyone experience with these?

The majority I've seen are dreadful, very big and bulky , often are difficult to eat and drink with and are mostly used as a temporary until definitive treatment is ready.

Also because they are only one colour they often look very very fake , particularly if a lot of teeth are involved. Teeth are naturally several colours and side and front teeth are not all the same colour. A skilled dentist and ceramacist (maker of veneers) will spend a long time getting colours right.

Ten teeth is an awful lot of teeth to veneer. What does your regular dentist think, or are these quotes from your regular dentist?

I am concerned going in as shane mcgown and coming out as david miliband :)

If you look at some of the cases here you can see how dreadful they can look and these are posted as successes. It's a lot of money to pay for basically plastic clip on teeth. http://www.denturecosmetics.co.uk/snap-on-smile.html

Did you self refer to the new dentist or speak to your own dentist first?
