Hi all,
So step change advised that i get a basic current account away from my banking creditors so i applied to lloyds. Initially they offered me a basic bank account with debit card etc then they have offered me the classic current account, no overdeaft or anything. Must i have a basic bank account or can i have the classic account as it has been offered to me?

Hi there,
If there is no overdraft or charge for the account, then I don't think this should be an issue, but it would be better for you to double check the Step Change if that is who you are using. The reason people normally have a basic account is because it is easier to get, you can't have an overdraft (so no risk of any further debt) and there is no charge for the account. Sounds like you have ticked all of those boxes anyway,

I thought this also. I joined Lloyds with a basic account at the start of DMP and was offered standard current, current extra etc. The bank manager tried to tempt me but I stuck to my guns and have got and kept a basic account. It is entirely up to you but I get loads of offers on this account such as the save the change saving account, basic ISA, all linked and everyday offers where I can get cash back etc. This is all with a basic account. I'm perfectly happy with mine and genuinely don't feel I am missing out on anythingLove my DMP left to pay £0/ £10162.51

Once you start the DMP, and get a few defaults, you may find the offers dry up rather quickly !!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
