Recovered MKV files not playing

Ok, so I had a bit of an blonde moment in replacing one of my RAID0 drives (faulty) which has resulted in the drive losing its file structure, all files being held in RAW.
The NAS is a ReadyNAS Duo (v1).
Most of the files are backed-up (important ones) but I've got some other video files that weren't backed up (boo) and I want to recover these.
I've used DiskInternals Linux Recovery to recover the files to an external HDD.
The files are there, appropriate sizes and with their MKV file extension but when I try to play them (using VLC) they play for a couple of seconds and then stop. Within Linux Recovery it has a preview pane and the same files play perfectly there so, I am at a loss as to what may be wrong.
Any thoughts....

I doubt very much you have a RAID 0 set up as you would not recover anything with one drive loss as RAID 0 is striped.
Is it RAID 1 ?Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Yes, I knew I should have double checked before posting, although in Netgear ReadyNAS it is X-Raid (expandable mirroring)Fightsback wrote: »I doubt very much you have a RAID 0 set up as you would not recover anything with one drive loss as RAID 0 is striped.

You could give the free R-Linux a shot at recovery instead:

I wonder if it's the same length of time or data that they play for? Whether there's a file size limit in the recovery software, or whether it recovers the first x MB for some reason? Maybe a different recovery tool will do better?0

Just like to thank you again.Fightsback wrote: »You could give the free R-Linux a shot at recovery instead:

I've done a couple of test files and they appear all good so, am now running through the remaining files that weren't backed up.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

Nice to hear it worked and you didn't have to learn the hard way RAID isn't back up.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
I do have a back up regime in place for the NAS (separate HDD in main PC and external USB drive) but these few files (volume) aren't critical but had escaped my back-up process.Fightsback wrote: »Nice to hear it worked and you didn't have to learn the hard way RAID isn't back up.
Will rectify once I get the NAS back up and running.
Thanks for your help.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True
