Career change advice?

So, after finally getting a move from a job I had been trying to get out of for years, around 14 months ago, things have really not worked out any better for me.

The job market locally is essentially dead, no roles I'd be interested in being advertised, other than ones I'm prohibited from applying for due to a lack of specific experience.

This has got me thinking about looking at a total change of career, and I know there is a major shortage of teachers in my local area.

However, as I really can't afford to quit my full-time job, I'm not sure how feasible this is.

Anyone done any teacher training in Scotland part-time, along with working full-time? Or able to point me in the direction of where you can get advice on course options, and, importantly, funding?

I'm not in Scotland but I did my Further Education PGCE part time whilst working full time, but I was already working in a teaching role so my job was my placement. I enjoyed it although it was tough at times. I had lectures 5 hours a week term time on Weds afternoons, my employer gave me the time to attend as it benefited them.

It would be quite hard to do the minimum 70 hours/year teaching practice on top of working full time elsewhere AND all the studying ad teaching prep. Almost everyone on my course taught in their day jobs, the few that didn't were unemployed and picked up hours in the college.

I'm not sure what PGCE you are looking at, a primary or secondary school one would more than likely be a full time course.

Try your local careers advice centre or the college/uni offering a course for advice. Good luck

    Thanks.

Times are really bad up here just now, and I can't see me getting any chance of a move into a relevant role.

No idea how to go about a total career change, but I feel it is something I need to do. Just unsure if I can actually afford it though, which is a big worry.
