Hi there

Requirements are (in importance order):

It needs to scrunch up VERY small as its for a Sportive where I'll have lots of other gear to carry.
Thin (and maybe even breathable) as I sweat like a beast
Shower proof.
Decent wind stopper.
Total water proof would be great but don't want to pay a premium.
Oh and obviously cheap!

Any good ones out there please?

Thanks in advance

In my experience won't get thin, lightweight, waterproof, breathable, pack light AND cheap - there will some compromise to a degree.

That said, I have 3 rain jackets, Aldi, Pearl Izumi and a Gore - price from £20 to £60 (1/2 price old stock) and £130 and I find they are all good at generating sweat in warm rain but that is just me, I sweat a lot - someone naturally cooler might not have the issues. The Gore has the advantage of zipped arms and back to create air vents which make it more pleasant but doesn't pack small enough to go in a pocket while the Pearl does.

Just picking wiggle as I like them, I have sorted these into order of cheap to expensive for waterproof jackets (not assuming you are make or female). Sportful are the same company as Castelli in all but name and I have their Fiandre range of waterproof bib tights and they are great so it's nice they have one at £27.50 - on a budget, take that one. If you can stretch to £50 or so, Altura after that you're looking at £75 and up

I can't recommend them having never tried but Cycle Weekly liked the B'Twin Aerofit 900 8/10 (£50) and said it'll keep out most rain or the Galiber Mistral 9/10 (£72) which could do with a longer tail and is water resistant rather than proof

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

A bit more than I wanted to pay but decent reviews.

    Fingers crossed!

dhb (wiggle's own brand) generally get good reviews for value for money especially the padded gear, I'm sure it'll be fine
