Monday 4th July - what small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

    Hi everyone

Thanks for the kick off PurpleFairy :A
Good luck with the ikea challenge of only buying what you are going for! ;)
Legomum - hope your ankle is feeling better.
Yorkshirelass - just saw your msg from last night. I hope your son is ok. Feeling the pressure at such a young age - brings back painful memories. :(

    Hello to everyone else

Not much from me tbh... I'm happy that I'll only be out one night this week for job#2. :T Got the rest of the evenings to sort the house so that I'm not doing it all at the weekend.

Need to sort website with up-to-date class info and reply to emails...

Need to find out if there is any chance whatsoever of getting a buy-to-let mortgage. I have permission to let but it's up for renewal - just don't think I can get a buy-to-let (not enough equity) so I might need to sell it even though I will lose about £15k. :(

    What else:
Get a cheapo lunch from somewhere
Leftover roast chicken for dinner
    Read free e-book :A
WM on quick wash and hang to dry rather than TD
    KM another category
    Early night!

    Catch up soon everyone
  • Morning all!
    1) wash a load of washing and hang out to dry
    2) await my mums birthday present from amazon (used but excellent apparently)
    3) mourn my own stupidity at now having £25 to last until the 15th!
    4) go to mums today as she wants to go to Cheshire oaks
    5) try not to be depressed going to Cheshire oaks with no money
    6) use stocks for evening meal
    7) try to eat healthily
    8) update DMP balance figures due to some debts charging me interest
    9) make a plan for next month so I don't end up with this little money again
    10) try not to stress about forthcoming results at the end of my degree
    11) try and feel thankful afore mentioned degree is now almost finished! 4 weeks left!
    12) try and think about the positives that I have coming rather than sitting on negatives

    That's all for today chaps!

    Morning all,
Still fretting about something over which I have no control, so am keeping very busy - lots of frugal bits:
*Laundry line-drying in the sunshine. Washer reloaded for another cheap load overnight.
*Rubber chicken. Roast dinner last night. Will do chicken slices for similar again tonight. Also enough for tomorrow's fajhitas & a pie for the freezer, plus a packed lunch. Carcass in SC for stock. Leftover veg & gravy all used up too.
*Picked broad beans. Will blanch & freeze, keep adding to bag ready to make broad bean pesto.
*Make pastry....which took care of a Use it up item.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
    *Leftovers for my lunch today.
*Free firness digging over bed & planting out baby cabbages. Will need to find brassica collars......made for free from leftover pond lining.
*Update grocery budget & pay the money across to CC (used only to maximise points for vouchers, so it gets paid off straight away).
*Weighed a couple of items for listing on ebay. Will do some re-listings too, while it's free.
    *Knit.
*Pick sweet peas. Free fragrance for house.
*Water & feed all fruiting veg.
*Hunt for rogue snail as FOUR baby lettuces have been scoffed. May go out at dusk with torch & bucket of doom.
*Filled up my big storage jars with red lentils & brown basmati rice.....both bought in Sainso's world food aisle. Thanks again to Ziggy for that tip, as we are making decent savings on what we paid previously.
*Top up worm composter with scraps in return for the 3 jugfuls of free liquid plant food they've produced over the last month.
    Must crack on now.

    Evening all :)
Thanks for starting the thread PF :)
((Hugs)) to those who are feeling down, preoccupied or stressed :(

    Today I have:
Checked banks and opened a new regular saver account, to recycle money through and earn a bit of interest (the one I had has matured, they only last a year)
Returned a faulty phone to Currys or whatever they call themselves these days. They were very helpful, which was something after the phone / BT saga (which is much too tedious to go into detail over, suffice to say it has been expensive and a nuisance) that I have had to deal with over the last few weeks :(
Posted ebay parcels and listed a couple more items - which have also sold :)
Went to sales unit, nothing sold there - I am so pleased I have reduced this outlay right down :T
Did a shop at Mr S, forgot my list :( but surprisingly only omitted to get one thing that I needed!
Relieved them of some more of the wine boxes they leave at the front of the store, for my ebay parcels :D
    HM meals
Finished making the quiche I started yesterday, still got ham and cheese bits left, so I guess it is macaroni cheese with ham in it next :rotfl:
Blitzed front garden, managed to co-opt OH to help, looks much better now. Still a bit to do, but hopefully can get to that tomorrow
Made a batch of Mrs F.'s famously effective cat deterrents (olbas oil on old tea bags) to keep the blighters off the now tidy garden :T
Watered everything that needed it :)
    Nearly ready for bed now!

    Hi July Joculants,

Thanks for your good wishes. No aggravation today. Long may it remain that way. We're still both feeling "bruised". :( But "smooth seas do not make strong sailors". On we go.

    Anyway,
trying to keep the MSE faith.

Debt Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Two:

    * 12 hour shift at work: all good money in the bank but very hard work today as my two colleagues were both off and our boss has now left.

    * Checked online balances.

    * Read news online.

    * Earned postage stamps through RM Surveys.

    * Good friend bought us two miniature bottles of booze back from his home country. So kind.

    How about you folks?
