In my Tesco extra today I saw that they have started an offer on the voice over IP (VOIP or internet phone call) equipment including the
Tesco IPA 1000 Internet Phone Adapter
at £24.99. This plugs directly into the broadband or cable router (you need an ethernet port) so you can make internet calls when the computer is off. You can't use this adapter if you only have a USB broadband modem that connects directly to your PC. There is a £5 calls voucher included in the box and Tesco give you a landline number for your VOIP calls (there are free calls to other Tesco numbers). You will also need to plug a phone of your own into this adapter box.
Half price offers also include a headset for £4.99 and a wired USB phone handset for £9.98. These both plug into the PC and work only when the PC is turned on - though I see that the wired handset is not compatible with Windows Vista!
