An observation I would make regarding those 'Media Hogging Queens' is that they have been around for almost as long as there have been competitions to enter.


I still remember the names of some of them from the 1980's even though those ones are now long gone.


Maybe it just that there are a lot more of them selling there stories to the media these days simply because there are a lot more compers generally.

Thanks everyone for reading my blog and sharing it. I am on here but I don't join in the forums that often. I just really don't like people going to the media saying you can live on comping because I really don't think you can as you can't guarantee what each month is going to be like.

There are people who make a living off comping it's generally just not directly by comping, there are various pay to enter sites, along with the odd magazine, website, blog* etc that run at a profit.

*They can almost become a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy as people use referral links on them leading to more wins leading to more exposure, more use of the referral links, more wins etc.

Very interesting read and I agree with many of your points. What I will say though, to maybe give the opinion of someone who is relatively new to the comping world (I've been comping and a member of MSE for about 18 months), is that I've genuinely picked up on nothing but positive and supportive vibes from these forums and from the comping community in general. I don't tend to post competitions so maybe that's why I haven't picked up on any negativity, but I have honestly felt like there is a family spirit on these boards and that the vast majority support and celebrate other people's wins and efforts Sending out massive thanks and appreciation to all those who do post and lots of luck to all of my fellow compers
