Halifax Mortgage Application/Offer Cancelled (after exchange)

We took out a mortgage with Halifax in Feb for a new build which was due for completion in June but has been delayed till mid July. Anyway, when we made the application, via a broker, everything went smoothly. Application was accepted without any issues and we exchanged within a days! Happy days!
Fast-forward to yesterday, I received the following email from our mortgage broker:
“Hope you are well.
Halifax have advised that your Mortgage application has been cancelled and due to having not received any correspondence from you, can you please confirm if you are no longer continuing to purchase the property.”
Understandably this sent me into a bit of a panic. I rang my mortgage broker who investigated with Halifax and it turns out that because there have been no movement in the case since Feb (when we exchanged) Halifax assumed that we were no longer going through with the purchase and ‘accidentally’ cancelled the mortgage (even though the offer doesn’t expire until Sep)! Has this happened to anyone else? The Halifax advisor my mortgage broker spoke to said they have escalated the matter and someone will be in contact on Monday.
MB seems to think there’s a strong likelihood that the mortgage application will just be reinstate but hasn’t ruled out having to make a new application.
Any advice on what I can do, if anything, will be much appreciated. Finger crossed we don't have to go through the whole application process this close to completion!

Halifax emails the broker;-Good Morning - Application Update
As it has been some time since we have had correspondence from you, we require to know if this case is proceeding.
Many Thanks
so we contact them and tell them what's going on. The valuation has to be refreshed six months after it was done and the broker needs to ensure this is done otherwise completion might be delayed.

Thanks Kingstreet. Maybe that is what they meant by they accidentally cancelled the application, in that they didn't check with the broker first beforehand whether the case was proceeding or not.
No our MB isn't a new build specialist but they were recommended to us by a work colleague who also bought a new build with considerable waiting time between exchange and completion.0 -

When I was working at the Halifax, in this sort of case the application would be re-instated, but their system will credit score you again.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Thanks. That's definitely reassuring. To be honest I don't mind them credit scoring is again. Since the original application we've not applied for any credit and we don't plan on doing so for the foreseeable future.0
