Blockbuster, Ebay or Bootmarket????? Opinions required please

HI everyone, I am after your advice and opinions please.....

Right, both hubby and I are complete film boffins... BUT we have been having a good sort through and believe it or not we have just over 200 DVD's to sell. where do you think we will get the best offer from. Blockbuster hav offered us £1 per DVD which I have to say did not bowl me over in the least.

SOOOOOO really there is only 2 options that I know of left do you think bundles or aroud 40 to 60 on ebay or selling them at a boot market is the way to go?

Unless you have any other ideas that I can try.

  • I'd have a look what they're going for on ebay. The ones that are getting a reasonable price I'd list, the others I'd take to blockbuster. I've never used amazon for selling stuff so I wouldn't be inclined to do that, but you never know, you might get more for them on there.

On ebay.co.uk I think it's 5p to list media (dvds/cds/games/books) if they start at under 1 pound each, and those starting over 1 pound are 10p to list. I would guess you're likely to get more for them if you listed them individually with a low starting price or in fixed price format. Dvds sold in lots don't usually bring very much per dvd.
  • Actually.. another idea.

A friend of mine moved away recently and what he did was compile a full list of the dvds he wanted to sell, then emailled it to his friends and co-workers saying he was selling them for 5 euro each. It could be an idea if you have friends who might be interested.
  • amazon's pretty good if your dvds are slightly rare and you don't mind waiting a while for them to sell. Bear in mind that what with fees etc you'll only receive around 75% of price set, but at least if they don't sell you lose nothing - I tend to stick stuff on amazon for a while first then if it doesn't sell try ebay.
  • The asking people you work with is a great idea - where I work we have an online 'small ads' thing and I've sold all sorts of things on that in the past. People sell DVDs quite often.

I'd personally rate Amazon over Ebay but it does depend on the item. If you go over to the Ebay, auctions, car boot sale etc etc board on here there's a great Amazon thread and if you ask your question over on that board you'll probably get advice from people who have done what you want to. It also depends how quickly you want the money and how much time you can give to it.

Good luck though - 200 DVDs is a serious amount to shift!

  • Thanks for your replys and different opinions it has been very informative.

Yes 200 DVD's is alot to shift, but I think its actually around 260, but we still have over 500 that we can't bear to part with

As I said we are film fanatics :D
  • If blockbuster are willing to take all of the DVD,s for £1 each and not cherry pick them, then I think that would be the best option. It means you will not have to spend your time selling or listing them individually, think of what that could cost you,not only in cash but in time and effort too.
New DVD,s are so cheap now and are reduced to silly money so quickly(Tesco sell DVD,s for £3 each which I bought newly released for almost £18 just 7 or 8 months ago)that £1 each is fair in my opinion for 2nd hand DVD,s.

  • Check out prices on Play.com they have a listing service. A friend of mine has sold some games recently for more than Ebay prices....?
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

  • i would take Blockbusters offer - no hassle and no listing fees - just good old hard cash!

Maybe you coudl ask for £1 each plus 15p store credit for each one - this would give you £30 store credit so you coudl hire DVD's for nothing rather than buy them!

Unfortunatly their offer is 50p per DVD for Cash, or £1 for store credit, but our blockbuster has a gamestation within it and they will allow us to use the in sore credit with them after some nagotiation.
