Earplugs to block out noise

Options
I really hate having things in my ear for a few reasons I get really panicky that someone can approach me in my sleep, or even small things like what if someone rings my phone or knocks on my door and I can't hear it and they feel uncomfortable.

And the sensory isolation basically means I lose all sense of balance and switch off, as even with headphones I have almost walked into traffic or even often tripped over my feet as zero coordination.

Is there some comfortable earplugs? failing that would just plus in one ear be ok since I lie on my side against wall anyway.

Just asking as whenever I visit relative they have a busy road next to them.

its funny that i can fall asleep in front of the tv but noise when in bed keeps me awake. how about putting a radio on? constant sound somehow helps sometimes.

I dislike earplugs for the reasons you mention but need to use them sometimes. If the noise isn't too bad then having just one in does sometimes work. I've found the Boots brand Muffles Wax Earplugs to be ok. They're very hard when you take them out of the box, but they get much softer as they warm up. I find it takes about 10 minutes or so after putting them in for them to soften up enough to mold to the shape of my ear. I still prefer not to use them, but if I must then I find these more comfortable and effective than others, and they're not as expensive as some of the other brands.

Some people also like to use white noise, but that doesn't suit everyone and isn't helpful in all situations.
