Mixed martial arts gym

Hi all.

Today I went to an MMA gym as it is something I am interested in doing to get fit and also as its something I'm interested in.

The only thing is the gyms don't display their prices upfront so I don't really know what to expect.

The gym I went to today want £99 as like a joining fee and first months membership then £75 per month for 5 months then when you move up its £299 then £100 a month.

You get access to 5 2 hour classes a week with instructors etc and they provide all the equipment.

Does this seem like a fair price for something like this? If not, how much would people expect to pay?

What happens if you get injured and are off for an extended period? Can you stop paying?

I would love the opportunity for 5 two hour classes a week. You could become brilliant very quickly if you stick with it but could you realistically fit that much into your life?

    I didn't ask that.

I could probably go 4 times a week, definitely 3 times. It's not a proper 'gym' with free weights etc though, its literally just two rooms with mats and a small boxing ring.

I'm completely in the dark as to what I should be looking to pay.

Mate that is very expensive. What is the MMA gym? Unless they are producing top talent, they are milking their students.

Have you considered BJJ? Its a fantastic martial arts system, a true staple of MMA.

The club I am a member of is Gracie Barra and its £45 a month. I can go 6 days a week if I want, and it is tremendous. I have done boxing and kick boxing for years and experimented with other martial arts also, but I can highly recommend BJJ, its all you need.... and its the best decision I have ever made.

Agreed, that sounds very expensive. I pay £55 for unlimited classes, BJJ, Muay Thai and MMA. Plus unlimited use of ring and sparring kit.
  • Bit pricey, are you in London?

I attending a boxing class in a martial arts gym. I pay £5 for the one off class or its £40 for the month in which they have countless classes from 6am-9pm.

By your description I would look elsewhere.

That sounds a lot money to me.

I would be expecting to pay from £25 to £60 a month depends on how many classes you wish to attend a month.

Also a joining fee of £99? Are they trying to discourage people from joining?

I would shop around to see if a better deal about.
