Opinions are rather irrelevant, since it is compulsory!

But in my experience it is much the same as employment tribunals. It is a great service if you "win"; and rubbish and wrong if you don't.

What exactly are you seeking opinions about? Whilst it is compulsory to submit any potential claim to Early Conciliation prior to issuing proceedings in the Employment Tribunal, it is not compulsory to actually engage with the process in any meaningful way. As such, whilst it does have the potential to encourage settlement of some cases at any early stage, in others it has no effect at all because one or both parties refuse to engage with it. Its effectiveness very much depends on the issues in dispute and the approach of the individual parties.
