Best timing to start a DPP process?

Right, so having researched my options, I think this is the best way for me to proceed.

The payments due to come off my most recently salary payment have now been taken.

Does anyone know when the DPP payments would likely start? e.g. if I sent in the forms now to Step Change, would it likely start from my July salary (paid on 29th Jul) , or would it be more likely to start from my August salary(paid on 26th Aug)

Also, do I need to contact my creditors to inform them I'm looking to set this up? Or only just get automatic card payments cancelled?
