An update, 20 panels confirmed will fit on South facing roof, company 3hrs away are diverting someone to measure my roof (they are the supplier who have impressed the most) still waiting for poor speller to confirm what size system could be fitted.

Long way away supplier has rung, our roof is 9.6 metres * 4 metres (the south facing bit) 20 panels fit fine. They quoted £5k for a 4kw 16 panel system and are quoting tomorrow for a 6kw system. It's really quite exciting....

    Hi

First impression is that the roof space may be more than a little tight for 20 panels ..... Double-check the figures against the actual panel sizes, allowing for roof edge & ridge margins which are needed to avoid high-winds lifting the panels ... also, are you expecting portrait or landscape mounting ??

Ok 5 suggestion from supplier a long way away....

Sizes from 5 to 5.89 kwp
Prices within £400 of each other the cheapest being £5788
All 19 or 20 panel systems
Electricity produced between 4170 kwh and 4912 kwh
Return on investment between 12 and 15% Pa
The 5.9 system appears from a spreadsheet point of view the best option in terms of return Hisunage 310W black mono panels with a Samil Solar River 6000TL-D inverter.

The 5 systems quoted have a range of inverters and panel types.

    Hi

Have you checked the physical fit yet ? ...

If the panels are (say) 1650x1000 then 20 panels in two portrait rows would cover approx 10m(W) x 3.3m(H) .... you've posted that your roof is 9.6m x 4m so the panels of that size would obviously overhang ... you would ideally need at least another metre of width to install 20 panels at the width used in this example so it is crucial that you check both the roof measurement and quoted panel specifications before awarding the contract ...

    Hi

Just checked one for you ... the Hisunage 310W panels (MOD-HIS-00004) are 1956 x 992 x 50mm, which leaves little scope for ridge or roof edge margins if the 4m measurement is correct ...

    Alarms bells!

When you get the full details, post em up and chat, as just off the top of my head 5,000kWh at 7p (it's a bit less) would be £350. Add on £150 for leccy savings (it could be less) is £500.

For a 10% gross return, the price would have to be £5k.

Watch out for over egged leccy savings, and leccy price inflation projections.

Ah! I may have misunderstood. Are these the suppliers estimates?

You mentioned a 910kWh/kWp figure from PVGIS, so hopefully 5-6kWp will be more like 4,500 - 5,400kWh.

This will improve your returns a bit, but 12-15% still isn't possible on costs of £5,788+.

Putting my pedancy aside, it's nice to see it's going in the right direction, and you're getting lots of quotes, options and knowledge.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
