Alliance and Leicester Morgage PPI

hi, I have today received a letter from the Santander Group regarding my Alliance and Leicester Mortgage PPI. Whilst they agree I had it. they are saying that the "MPPI was appropriate for you when it was sold and therefore we are not upholding your complaint".
They go on to say that even tho I had other means of payment for the mortgage that "the MPPI policy would have provided an additional benefit in the event of a successful claim" and "it has never been a requirement to take MPPI with a mortgage".
I still believe I was missold it and there grounds of would have been an additional benefit are laughable.
in the final paragraph they state "we are unable to consider whether there was an unfair relationship arising out the mortgage under the Consumer Credit Act we will revising this aspect by end of October".
Does anyone have any advise please? Can I take it to the Financial Ombudsman or should I appeal directly?

Its not laughable. MPPI pays out in addition to other benefits. It is not restricted by them. Most MPPI complaints are rejected (and this includes by the FOS).in the final paragraph they state "we are unable to consider whether there was an unfair relationship arising out the mortgage under the Consumer Credit Act we will revising this aspect by end of October".
that is unlikely to apply to standalone MPPI paid by monthly premium. possible but unlikely. That is something that is more common on single premium PPI. The FCA hasnt set its final rules on that yet. Hence the delay.Does anyone have any advise please?
You havent told us what your complaint was and what evidence may exist to support it. The response from Santander suggests there wasnt much of a complaint. Can I take it to the Financial Ombudsman or should I appeal directly?
You can go to the FOS if you disagree. However, do be aware that most MPPi complaints are rejected and you usually need something a bit stronger than wishy washy unproveable allegations when it comes to MPPI.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
