in Cutting tax
Not so much cutting tax - but couldn't find an appropriate different board.
I'm being ruthless with the disposal of paperwork before we drown in the stuff so am scanning and shredding / burning as much as possible.
This year I have three P60 forms from HMRC from my three part time jobs. Each has the warning 'do not dispose of this ... needed for ...etc etc'
As I'm scanning it am I safe to dispose of the hard copies? There won't be any claiming of tax credits, am PAYE although I realise the potential of self-assessment.
It's only the information on each which I need and not the actual piece of paper? My head tells me I'm asking a stupid question though my heart is tugging at 'make damned sure'.
Thanks

I can't see any reason why your head wouldn't be right, it should be the information that needs to be retained rather than the piece of paper. But as I have physical P60s going back to at least 2003 who am I to talk?0

There are still some backward organisations that want a paper P60 as proof of earnings etc. Yes, I know that an "electronic" version of a payslip or P60 is legally valid, but some organisations just can't cope with that logic and just "need" to see something in the format that they're accustomed to, i.e. with tractor feed holes at each end, or a carbonated tear open document etc. It's sometimes just easier to keep it rather than waste your breath trying to argue with such !!!!!! organisations!0

Thanks. Last month my mother gave me EVERY payslip she received from her job from when she started in 1966 until she retired in 1994, plus all the correspondence about pay rises etc. That was just one packet from her cupboard. She seems to have kept every single piece of paper including utility bills dating from 1959 to the present date, telephone bills from the first phone etc. Hence my need to 'get rid'.

Thanks for the heads up though my thoughts are that if any organisation that insists on paper copies can probably whistle for them. I'm semi-retired, tried to be fully retired but found that my skills were in demand in my little corner of Scotland and my head needed the exercise!
As these three organisations each send me e-payslips each month the P60s are now consigned to the burning pile.0 -

I keep a few of the same sort of stuff my father retained throughout his life starting in 1932 (yes his first year's payslips, complete with copperplate handwriting) as well as specimen bank statements from subsequent decades for the sake of nostalgia, family and wider social history0 -
retain a selection!

I did scan a selection but not kept any hard copies. All the 'younger' members of the family now live abroad and are busy collecting their own stuff. My brother was the one who compiled and kept track of family history and he died in 2007. None of our assorted children have any interest. Sad, I know!0 -

In theory, any organisation requiring a paper copy should be fine with one you print from the scan, BUT be advised that this is not always acceptable when bank statements are required. Whether that will change over time, I don't know.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I don't get any paper statements now for any bank account or any credit card apart from one. I like to keep that one going as sometimes I need proof for something or other.
P60s scanned and hard copies burnt, along with assorted other papers.0
