So, let me check.

Plaid Cymru are not popular in Wales, having only 3 seats out of 40. In the recent Welsh assembly elections, they came third behind the Tories. And overall, Wales is in favour of leaving the EU (52.5%).

But.....

I trust in your heading you are just talking about Plaid Cymru in general & Leanne Wood in particular, not the Welsh people as a whole.

(I also think a better heading would be Living in Cloud-Cuckoo Land).

The majority of us know that we certainly couldn't survive as an independent country, we depend on England. We also know we don't want Plaid in charge of us, they are a small party that looked into a magnifying mirror and saw themselves a lot bigger than they actually are. They have been around for decades and are no bigger now than they were in the 20th century.

Leanne Wood thinks she is on a par with Nicola Sturgeon, she even repeats the same words as her: 'Independence is (back) on the table'.

If Wales were capable of independence and supporting ourselves, why are so many asking what is going to replace their EU hand-outs? Why does the Barnett formula need to be re-balanced?

We are a proud nation, but the majority know we couldn't survive without England and being part of the UK.

The way the Welsh have showed solidarity I'd vote for scrapping Barnett for Scotland and giving the difference to Wales. Divisive people north of the border have really put me off them, if they can survive on their own let them do it. I consider myself British and then English, not the other way around.
  • Now I've been living in Wales for the last couple of years - I totally agree with kpwll.

There are parts of Wales where the nationalists are rather "stronger" than others - but, even in those parts, most Welsh imo don't tend to think much of the policies espoused by the nationalists. So - if a generally "we're all part of Britain" viewpoint is the majority viewpoint in even a more nationalist stronghold area here - then it would be even more the case across Wales as a whole.

You should hear some of the comments I've had made to me by Welsh people - and they are not complimentary about the nationalists.

I'm referring to Leanne Wood. Nothing or nobody else. Noting against the Welsh at all. Lived there for a few years and loved it. I know people generally comment that politicians are disconnected, but she really doesn't have a clue. Only a very small minority are interested in Welsh independence, and usually for the wrong reasons.
