I think you will struggle to make a living. The business model is really one sided. This article is from Dec 2015

And from this month

They should be able to help you set up being a self-employed sole trader with regards to tax and NI, and advise you as such. I'm sure they have plenty of riders working for them, who become self-employed for the first time.
Also consider, if you're on a scooter, you've worked out the running costs over the long term (i.e. insurance for the carriage of goods (food) for hire and rewards, servicing, petrol, clothing, etc). They also don't guarantee you work, I understand they only pay you per drop. Furthermore consider you only get paid when you work, so need to cover for sickness and holidays.0 -
And aren't HMRC looking into this kind of self employment where you work for one company, sure I read that they were.0

HMRC are very suspicious of a lot of these schemes - I think they'll tolerate it upto a certain income, then act.0

Theresa May is personally looking into this type of bogus self-employment. Frank Field is currently compiling a dossier on Hermes and HMRC will be taking a closer look at their "self-employed" courier model. It is likely they will also face the Work and Pensions select committee to answer questions.0
