Old HBOS loan

I took out a loan with HBOS in 2011, it was 2 year term and the term ended in my opinion in June 2013. June came and I made the last payment but HBOS insisted it ended in October 2013 and after many letters and threats with debt collectors and all sorts I paid them 4 more payments in one lump sum and thought nothing more of it.

Today I got a letter from HBOS collections team, it said one of my accounts was due a refund, I thought the letter was a fake as I've not banked with HBOS or Lloyds since, I moved my current account to Santander after all this happened.

I took the letter to a local BOS branch where I was asked to produce ID, the teller called the number on the letter (which it turns out is genuine) and got a real grilling over wether or not he was sure the ID was mine and I am the real GlasweJen. He confirmed 2 or 3 times that he had my passport in my hand and he had no doubts I was the genuine article. The teller then handed me the phone and the woman on the line told me that in July 2013 my loan account went into credit, it then had a PPI refund applied in December 2015 and long story short they owe me just over £2000 (the loan was only for £3500).

This all seems a bit too good to be true, has similar ever happened to anyone else?

It's not impossible. But check the calculation when the cheque comes through.

Thanks, I'm sure my payments were about £100 a month which would be loan plus interest plus PPI (which I didn't even know I had). I just can't believe that they are sending me £2K out of the blue though it's appreciated as we are paying for a wedding. Apparently they will send me a break down but as I had no clue this was an issue I don't know how confident I feel at calculating if it's right.

The guy in the branch was astounded that I was getting such a big refund from collections, I think when he saw the letter he thought I was in to complain because I owed them money.
