Happy MJ - thank you for that information. I work 12 hours a week term time only and if I was paid over the 39 weeks I would receive a credit as I am above the LEL. Because my wages are spread over the 12 months I receive no credits. ☹️

Then apply for JSA. As you work under 16 hours a week you are eligible even if you get no money due to your earnings. There is no need to look for full time work. You only need to look for work that fits around your current job and you don't have to accept anything.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Thanks, yes, I'll look into that. I suppose technically I would take a low hour job, but I'm not really looking for work, so I'm not sure that I would feel too honest about that. Regulations must have changed since my hubby looked into it a few years ago. I'll give it some thought.

Yes, I did check my NI record. I did a lot of looking up info on that site. Delighted to see that years in full time ed now count as full years instead of gaps, so I've gained 7 full years. :)

Funny thing is, after all the prospective pension calculations from various sources (two state pensions, Sir's teacher's pension, plus his bits and pieces from a previous job etc), we'll end up with far more per month then than we get now! :D My main concern for making sure my own entitlement is protected is in case I lose him.
    Elizabeth :)
Long-term No Buys: print books, make-up, art/craft items
    Lost 8 of the 20lbs I need to shed:D

I wasn't aware that credits were gained whilst studying over the age of 18.

You presumably don't have kids as you would get credited automatically with child benefit.
