Dry hair from swimming

I've joined a gym with a pool and trying to go swimming most week days. I can see my baby belly shrinking but my nice shiny hair is turning to straw. I wash and condition it after each swim then blow dry and straighten (it's a frizzy tangled mess otherwise). It hurts my neck swimming with my head out the water and when I tried a swim cap it split! I think I had too much hair stuffed inside it. Does anyone know of any products that might prevent the chlorine getting too it so much? I've got a GHD heat protector spray for straightening but I do find it makes my hair heavy and sticky.

I tend to put oikl on my hair when I go into the pool, wash it out and condition it with a,masque. I am currently using Shea moisture raw Shea masque and am finding it excellent.0

Do you mean oil and it's a typo or is that a brand? Sorry. Does it come off in the water? Don't want to make the pool dirty but it would be good to protect my hair. I wondered if putting a hair masque on then going in the steam room would work.0 -
you'd never guess by my name that I frequently visit swimming pools.
Those that swim daily do one of two things normally - make you hair wet in the shower before swimming, this way the hair soaks up fresh water not chlorinated, or plenty of decent conditioner, and then a swimming hat.
hope these help.Fibro-Warrior0 -
You can buy products that protect your hair whilst swimming, such as this

Haven't used it myself but if you are swimming frequently, blowdrying your hair and straightening it you need some help desparately."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

Yes it is almond oil, I have long hair so use about a teaspoon full as I am conscious of the pool water. I also smother my hair with it at weekends as a treatment, but not for the pool.0 -
I havent tried it yet (I have only just bought it) but Phillip Kingsley do a product called swim cap.
But if I was you, I'd look on eBay for swim caps for extra hair.
I have a serious head of hair & I can get a standard cap on though.0 -
I swim a lot, and the best way i've found to protect my hair is to:
1. Saturate it with fresh shower water first
2. Run a little conditioner through my hair( leaving it in)
2. Then put on a swimming cap
If your swimming cap split just try another. There are lots of brands and types. There's a big difference for example between silicone ones and non-silicone ones.
I know that Chill Swim swimming caps are extra big - they tend to fall off when I use them. Whereas a fried who has always struggled to find one big enough loves them. See here:
