Buying as a couple - 1 first time buyer and 1 not

Myself and my partner are saving towards a deposit currently. He currently owns the flat we live in in Wales (which we will be selling when ready), whereas I am a first time buyer. We are undecided on whether we will live in England or Wales (as we are basically on the border) just yet, but I want to know:
Could we apply for first time buyers incentives as it is the first time buying as a couple, or will it not be possible given that he as an individual already has a mortgage?
If I were to apply for the mortgage myself through a first time buyer scheme, can I then transfer the mortgage into joint names? If so is there a set time that this can happen after for example?
Sorry these are general questions, but I don't know where to start and any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

I am in a similare situation so would also like some advice on this.
The difference for us would be that I have a mortgage on this house and OH is a 1st time buyer. Could he get a help to buy ISA ready for when my fixed rate comes to an end? This would boost his deposit.
Cheers
PS to original poster - this may be an option for you too depending on answer.0 -
Hi there, I actually rang my bank yesterday and opened a help to buy isa, so yes your OH can do that. I did explain the situation and they said that was fine as I am still a first time buyer regardless of the fact I am doing it as a joint mortgage.
