co op bank accounts

Hi I was B.R August 2012 and like many others at that time opened 2 basic bank accounts with co op. later I got a I.S.A with Britania.
2 years ago I got a regular saver with Y.B.S which has just finished , so I have started another one.
Later this year I will be retiring and taking my T.F.L.S ,so I made appointment with co op and they will still not give me a savings account!
Even worse they will only allow new members 1 basic account not 2 which is crazy.
I was told I could upgrade my basic to a current account in 2 years..mmm think I will go elsewhere.

12k in 2018 No. 98 £6274.19/£18000 (34.85%)
BTL (start) £97440.00 (current) £68000.00
Residential (start) £275000.00 (current) £268000.000 -
There are plenty places to get savings accounts its the co op who really annoy me!0

Nationwide and Virgin - I had no problem when opening ISA's and regular savers.0

Yes Nationwide are on my list too, Yorkshire B.S have been very good.0

I work for the coop bank and most banks will only allow you to have a basic bank account and an ISA but not any other kind of savings account. You can open an ISA with any bank but most won't let you have any other kind of savings account0

There are several saving account options for a bankrupt.
Also most other banks will upgrade to a current account when the BR falls off the credit files after 6 years and there is at least one who will upgrade before it falls off under certain conditions. Co-op it appears do not upgrade after the 6 years and this is what we are discussing.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
I can't wait to ditch the CO OP in October... I tried to open an ISA with them and they said no. Fortunately I had a savings account with them before going BR so I've had access to that.
I have a basic account with Natwest and they gave me a savings account and ISA when I asked.
I've not found the CO OP very good at all they don't seem to want my business and I'm happy to take it else where.0 -
I would have to disagree with you there - it may have been the case a year ago but not anymore. Nationwide, Virgin and the Post Office have all opened ordinary accounts (not basic) for me in the last year or so without question. Barclays even upgraded my basic without me asking them. Only one local BS turned me down and it was their lossI work for the coop bank and most banks will only allow you to have a basic bank account and an ISA but not any other kind of savings account. Don't get me wrong - the co-op & Barclays were the only option for BR's for a long time and many, including me will appreciate their 'tolerance' of us - but I fail to find any logical reason why even after 6 years, the co-op refuse to upgrade and provide savings to customers who probably have better track records over the previous 6 years than many who have never been BR.0 -
The lady I had an appointment in the co op told me....when you are B.R you should not have any money to put into a savings account, which is why we will only offer 1 basic account not 2 as in the past...
That was me told then, and B.R for me was 4 years ago and retiring shortly with my lump sum....which will go into Y.B.S .
As said then we had no choice between co op and Barclays, now we do.0 -

Just goes to show how ill informed and frankly - rude - some bank staff are. Y.B.S deserve your business - the co-op (or at least the branch you went into - don't.
(when you think of the standards set by their previous Chairman - Paul Flowers - you might expect a bit of humility :rotfl: )0
