Advice needed from fellow wannabes please

Hi,

Decided to seriously go for it now and try and clear off as much of my debt as I can as I want to start saving towards fee costs for a PGCE course next year.

Currently this is my situation...

Oasis Store Card - £102.36
HSBC Credit Card - £484.09
Capital One - £156.00
HSBC Overdraft - £-1476.08
Parent Loan - £1740

I've realised i'm only to blame for this amount of debt, but it as well due to my depression i suffered throughout uni, and turning to alcohol and retail therapy to get me through, as well as overpriced coach and train tickets to and from home for doctors appointments and to see my mum.

Any advice or pointers to get me started would be much advised. I havent got the greatest of credit ratings, and i dont want to pay to get it checked because i know constantly accessing your files can bring it down as well. I really want to swap banks as i'm sick of the HSBC. My mum's suggested getting a credit card with a 0% interest deal on balance transfers, just to get me started and that.

I dunno where to begin to be honest. I'm picking up about £700 a month from my two jobs, and because of the hours i work it's impossible for me to get a third (ive tried), plus im in a long distance relationship. Oh and i have to give my mum £200 a month rent as well. I'm currently on minimum repayments for both my cards which they won't let me up without going through my bank!!!

I know this prob isnt all the information you wise people need, but all i'm looking for is a good shove in the right direction and some hints to help out.

Fingers crossed i can get this sorted.

Thank you
 Determined to sort her finances!

  • Hello :hello:

Have a read of the thread 'First time posters' as it will tell you how to start your Statement of Affairs (a list of all your incomings and outgoings) this is a fab place to start as we will all be able to see if you can make cut backs anywhere.

Although you will need to know all of your APR's.

The hard bit is over like the rest of us you know you need to do something about the money you owe.

Good luck and more people will be along soon to help. Oh and always remember to cancel a card once you have finished paying it off!

    Good luck x

And have a look at Martin's article on credit rating under cards and loans and get you credit checks for free. Checking them yourself does not affect your rating. Applying for lots of cards in a short time does.
