Hold off on exchange? or not...

Hi,
We were expecting to exchange this week and complete on the 20th Sept but were informed by our vendors that this was no longer possible and the next mutually convenient date is the 2 Nov.
In anticipation of exchanging this week we gave our solicitors a deposit of over £8000 but I'm toying with the idea of getting it back and bunging it in premium bonds or something immediately accessible then exchanging last week in Oct.
The transaction is all very good humoured and we won't be pulling out and I very much doubt the sellers would.
Any opinions welcome...
