I've never had a marked mattress, not even when I had tenants, as they've always had a fitted mattress protector plus a fitted fleecy washable electric blanket plus a sheet.

But I have used old duvet covers to transport them when moving house to keep them clean, and found them much easier to manoeuvre as the cover reduces drag on carpets and gives you something to grip when turning awkward corners.

Hydrogen Peroxide from the chemist. Wear gloves and dab the stains a few times. They might need a couple of applications but rub from inside to the outside of the stain.

Worked for me when there were embarrassing stains on our old mattress. Meant I could leave it out for the council to collect without fear.

You can try buying a pot of that "pink" vanish stain removal powder. It worked wonders removing bright yellow lilly pollen stains from my carpet, and they are very stubborn stains!
Just generously dampen the stained area, rub in the dry powder until it has completely dissolved and leave for an hour. Repeat if necessary.

Wen you get a new mattress get a mattress protector which has a fabric type upper surface with a waterproof backing. You can search for them on the internet. I bought them for all our beds in store from Dunelm but they may be available from their website too. They're lightweight, not bulky and can be washed on a low wash temperature. But dry them naturally, preferably outdoors and DON'T attempt to try them in a tumbler drier because the waterproof backing won't like it !

Don't bother trying to remove stains - do you have old paint around? Much more fun and people won't notice the stains.
