I was answering a hypothetical post by Cells about what would happen if 3 million migrants went home. He predicted a disaster, I disagreed.

Why did you bother to post if you aren't interested in that debate?
.......but I am interested Clappers ......so in effect you are saying that despite all the benefits you list that would result from 3 million migrants 'going home'....you actually really want them to stay here. Now why would that be?

As I've said on other occasions, I am not driven some ideology but by pragmatic issues.
In the present environment, I wish the best for the people of the UK: I believe this is best obtained by a smaller population or at least one growing by a lower rate than the current one. (indeed this would apply to the whole world too) and the ability to set our own laws.
However, I temper this view with many other views as I'm not a zealot.
So I accept the current situation for what it is, but wish to prevent the situation getting worse, expecially for the young people.
It's not a question of what I WANT but what is practically feasible.

So just like you, I think we need restrictions on immigration, it's just that you would have more and I less.

In the context of the specific hypothetical question, I was making the point that in practice we would be better off and not worse off as Cell's proposed.

So if 3 million people have made a life here and want to stay, then that is how it is, even if I think it would be to the advantage of the people of the Uk if they left.

Fair points but I would add....I think most of us want the best for humanity.....not just the UK. The issue really is about population control world wide, global warming, womens rights in Africa, birth control, mass movement due to war etc etc. Understand that some think we should just try and control our backyard, what we can control in other words.....'take control back'.... but that is short termism and limited and doesn't consider how that approach will be seen by other countries. ....Trump's wall type of response. It provides a sop of an answer to a much larger issue that has to be tackled internationally not with pathetic posters! That is why leaving the EU would be such a mistake. The EU provides one of the means by which these issues are addressed properly.

I too believe in world peace, justice and equality for all

however given where we are, at this period in time :
    1. do you believe there should be unrestricted immigration into the UK?
    2. if not, what is your criteria for entry? ..numbers, country of orgin etc
    3. do you consider that large EMIGRATION, does any damage to their own countries?

    Post EU Referendum Racism

    http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/eu-referendum-racism_uk_576fe161e4b08d2c56396075
This weekend I and my family have witnessed 3 "when are you going home?" Racist incidents aimed at EU citizens here.
Been standing here five minutes. Three different people have shouted "send them home".
'this is England, foreigners have 48 hours to f**k right off. Who is foreign here? Anyone foreign?'
"Table next to me says to Polish waitress "How come you're so cheerful? You're going home."
Our gardener shouted “time for you to go back home” at an Italian girl in our building. ‘Joke’ or not she wasn’t laughing.

if 3 million people go home we will
-all be able to enjoy a higher standard of housing
-enjoy reduced our time travelling on the road each day
-enjoy better access to NHS, doctors, dentists, hospitals
-enjoy tax cuts as we won't need to spend huge sums of money widening motorways, increasing train lines, building houses, hospital, schools etc
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.
