I received a cold call today. Person explained lots of savings to be gained and a trial period of 4 weeks could be mine for £5. If I found not to my liking after the trial period the £5 would be refunded. However, to enable the trial period I was required to give my bank sort code and account number for a DD to be set up to collect the £5. I refused to give my account number. All sorts of assurances were given to me that no payment would be taken until after the first week of the trial period; I still refused to reveal my bank account number. The caller suggested I visit their website to satisfy myself of their standing and that she would phone back later in the week. I have looked at their website and it looks good but I noticed at the bottom of their page "part of the Mentor Investment Group plc". I checked and this company's net worth in 2010 was £361819 with Total Assets showing £1228152. In 2016 (latest financial details available) their net worth had fallen slightly but what was worrying is their Total Assets plummeted by over 60% to £484581. I'm no accountant but I'd be wary of a company purporting to secure huge discounts whilst the parent company doesn't appear to reflect their capacity to support this.
Is it just me or does the web site look like it was built by a 5 year old .
Awfully cheap looking website
