Contact lens's the thruth?....

So I recently had an eye test with a fresh optical prescription, the store offered a fee contact lens trial.
However I'm finding the daily multifocal lens's are
a) Not as good as spectacles for distance
b) Not as good for near eg reading.
With my specs everything is crystal clear and I can read a number plate a good 6 houses and more away, the lens's are not as clear even at 4 car lengths ahead.
Am I expecting too much from lens compared to specs?
Or is it a matter of trial and error of the len's until an ideal is found?
What worries me is the lens power is very close to the spectacle prescription.
What are your experiences of contact lens's?

Do you think it might be multifocal lenses that are the problem? When I used to wear contact lenses, the best combination for me was distance lenses with reading glasses.0

I don't mind wearing my specs as I don't have to use them all of the time, ordinarily I don't require reading specs, the add is only to cancel the prescription so that the dash in the car appears clear.0 -
Though these are external lenses, I suspect that the multifocal part is the problem, as we were discussing the multifocal lens implants that my sister was considering and my optician said that besides it being risky to operate on healthy eyes, the lenses themselves were not 'ideal'.0

I have not used multifocal lenses, but I would say lenses and glasses have different pros and cons re: vision. I find my vision is better in glasses for reading, crafts and using a computer. I find my vision is better in lenses for things like sightseeing, driving or going to the theatre. My optician said that was a normal reaction.0

My single vision contact lenses are slightly less clear than my glasses, I think the best way of saying how much worse is that they are definitely clearer than my glasses when they have greasy smears and need cleaning. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

The negatives of contact lens for me are:
Waking up and not being able to see clearly. (Bedside glasses required)
Waking up with dry eyes - and having difficulty putting your contacts in.
Itchiness caused by continuous use.
Time - 35 minutes on average a week wasted putting them in every bleeding morning.0 -

Some years ago, I did a trial, bought a set of lenses, then stopped wearing them due to sore eyes caused by a bad cold. I so hated putting them in (my eyes are very sensitive, even flinching at water) that I never wore them again.
These were the hard type, but I could, even less, face the prospect of larger soft ones (They've probably changed now,but I won't be trying anything).
My sister has worn contacts for years, but now,in her late 50s is finding it harder and harder to tolerate them. (Hence my above mention of her considering implants).0 -
multifocal contact lenses espectially dailies will not be as clear as varifocal spectacles because the optics are very different.
If you want a solution where you can use them for shopping /socialising see a menu etc they should work ok. If you want them for intense VDU work or driving then you are likely to be disappointed.
Their may be some improvment but I would not expect them to perform anywhere near as well as varifocal specs.
The most succesfull wearers are thoose who use specs for work and contact lenses for social stuff. Dailies would give flexibiility for that purpose. Full time contact lenses would be better to try monthlies as more options avialable.0 -
Just to update , I found out why the lens are not suitable for some, the ADD of the lenses is greater than the power of my particular prescription.0

Multifocal CLs just dont work for a lot of people.
I would say either fully correct for distance with dailies and pop on some cheap ready readers or adjust CLs for monovision.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
