hi there
just a quick question about buying buildings insurance: i have went online to get some quotes and each time i'm asked the year of construction of the property that i am purchasing.
i have had a word with my solicitor and they have said that the title deeds don't mention the actual year of construction. they have said to use the info on my survey document. however, the survey document states that the property was built apprx 100 years ago.
is it acceptable for the insurance company to just use the apprx 100 years? or might this cause problems down the line.
the reason why i haven't contacted the specific insurers is that there are too many to consider. i'm just looking for a cheap policy to satisfy the mortgage lender at this stage.
thanks

For a property of that age approximately is fine. They are not going to invalidate your policy if the house is actually 110 years old. It's just an idea of around about when it was built.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I don't expect that there will be any issues in the first year as we will have had a little work done before we move in. With all the other costs that I will have to pay for furniture etc etc, I'd just like to cut down the cost for the first year.
It is possible to change buildings insurance providers each year at renewal, isn't it?
thanks for the replies!
