The special little chazzer I went into yesterday sells books for just 25p each. The Tempest was one such book.My 'new' thing to look for at the charity shops are Shakespeare plays.
My teenage DD has her heart set on applying to drama college in a few years time and I've recently got her lessons with a great teacher whose speciality is the Bard. Teacher is a great believer in buying 2nd hand too and not spending much, so I've started picking a play up when I see it, in anticipation of it being taught. So far, Romeo and Juliet for £1. When I get more familiar with how much I can expect to pay, I'll set myself a budget.
I didn't buy it because I have the complete works of Shakespeare already. I think it cost me £3 from a second hand (think house clearance) shop. These places tend to focus on furniture so any books they actually sell are a bonus

The Tempest would be great. It's the first book she's been told to study.VfM4meplse wrote: »The special little chazzer I went into yesterday sells books for just 25p each. The Tempest was one such book.

Around a year ago I believe I saw a complete works of Shakespeare, in the same shop I got Romeo and Juliet, as it has a 'classic book' section, but alas I didn't think to buy. Having a look in the 'ordinary' book section is a good idea though. Thanks.0 -

I tried to drop off a couple of bags at the local hospice shop yesterday, but it was closed! On a Saturday too! Will now take them to the children's charity donation centre instead.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I volunteered for a long time in a branch of a well known charity. There I saw prices creep up and then the store manager wonder why stuff didn't sell. For example, a small flight case (damaged but repairable) and she wanted £15 for it. New it was £18. When she was off and I had a cover manager she said to use my initiative to clear through 300 pairs of sandals. I sold them as an add on, buy something else in the shop you could pick a pair of sandals for a £1. Locum manager thought it was great and i shifted nearly 100 pairs in 2 days. The normal store manager was livid, she thought they were worth £7 or £8 each. Majority of brands were primark or shoe zone with a few more expensive ones thrown in.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. How much should I be paying for cookery books. Carluccio and Mary Berry?
I have spent a fortune.0 -
I'd say it depends on which shop you're buying from & what condition they're in.0

Blackpool has some good chazzas, there's still a couple that get 'new' stuff direct from the shops (after sales etc). I love going to see what they have, got a lot of my daughter's clothes (and mine) from the chazzas thereCC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
