OS Daily Sunday 19 June

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Good morning everyone.

After my busy day yesterday you'd think I'd sleep later - nope!

Today will be a day of rest whilst I watch the rain falling. Can't see Jura because of the low cloud. No washing to do, no cooking to do and definitely no housework is going to be done.

Thinking of my late Dad and today is my late nephews youngest child's first birthday.

    Happy Sunday everyone.

Morning, it is dry and bright for a change, though the weatherman in my tablet is a born pessimist.

Thinking about my late dad and also my step dad, who is a very old gentleman now and quite poorly, will ring him later.

I had a nice time in the reduced bit of Morr*sons on Friday, lovely cheese and a joint of pork all for less than £4 and I am going to cook the pork in char siu sauce to serve with fried rice and vegetables later. The cheese is for me, nobody else likes cheese other than as a topping if I make lasagne or similar or pizza.

Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Morning GERS and all to follow. A dull start but no rain forecast until this evening. Yesterday, despite the black start, we didn't get any rain but oh it was chilly. I resorted to my jogging bottoms and socks - unheard of in June!

Well I feel much better than I did yesterday at this time! In fact I felt pretty grim all day but, as it was self inflicted, I didn't get much sympathy! Needless to say the backlog of jobs didn't get started on so they are still awaiting today!

I left a chicken out defrosting to roast for lunch, with all the trimmings, but I'll try and restrict myself to an assortment of veg as I've been a bit of a glutton recently. There's a piece of crumble defrosting for Mr TA's afters but I'll stick to berries and yogurt.

DD is at the caravan with the girls this weekend and, amazingly, I have not had an SOS to say something isn't working! I really don't know what she does! She goes at everything like a bull at a gate and I think she is too heavy handed for the delicate workings of a caravan!

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Btw HILSTEP I think £50 is a generous donation for the little house. Take care all xx

  • Good morning all, thank you Gers fo starting us off, sorry you couldn't sleep.

Thinking of the Dads we loved and who are not with us anymore,

It is a lovely day here at the moment, whether it will last is another matter.

Well we managed to find a lovely jacket and trousers for Himself yesterday. The jacket is John rocha, no less:):) but in De*enhams sale(the name meant nothing to him) and the trousers from their Collection. I bought them for him as a Father's Day present, so he seems a happy bunny, and I have requested no more moaning.

I have just come downstairs and in the kitchen are presents for Himslf and a card, and a card and beautiful roses for us both from our lovely Granddaughter. It is our anniversary on Friday so I assume the roses are for that. I will open the card when Himself surfaces, she is such a good girl and it is now 12 months since she came to live ith us. She is absolutely no trouble, she is 23 does her own washing, cleans her own room, eats with us in the evening and usually spends a little time with us and then disappears to her room. We never thought when we were in our seventies we would have another young person living with us, but there you go.

DD1 is coming later and will stay for lunch, otherwise nothing else planned.

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone,

The girls woke me just after six and have been pottering around, I love this time of the morning when the house is so quiet and peaceful. It's sunny here and at last we are forecasted a good day, yesterday stayed dry but boy was it cold!

Needless to say my Billy was pleased to see his Mum for carrots, cuddles and a good groom. He is doing as well as possible and seemed to be moving ok in walk, didn't look at anything more than that. Am still looking for 24/7 turnout for him, the lass with the field has been advised by her partner that it gets water-logged in winter which is an obvious no no :(

Going to crack on in the garden today as everything has gone mad growth wise, my pots with tulips etc have gone over so need to sort them and get down the nursery for some geraniums to replace. My baskets are doing really well and the lavendar is close to flowering, just in time for the Solstice tomorrow.
The boys have invited their Dad and I out for evening meal so looking forward to that, it was originally meant to be brunch but they had a 21st party to go to last night and then have 20/20 game of cricket, don't envy them their no doubt thick heads this morning!

Thinking of my lovely Dad as always x

Have a good Sunday whatever you get up to, take care folks x

    Morning All

Overcast here and not a good forecast. Yesterday was lovely, really warm and sunny. The washing was dry in no time, grass cut and a few odd jobs done in the garden. I then sat out and enjoyed my book until about 8pm.

Meeting DD later for a wander round, I have to get a birthday present for DS1s GF in Holland to take over. No doubt she will want to visit the supermarket, she doesn't have a car and wont buy any fresh fruit and veg unless she can see it (very sensible).

I have my postal vote here ready to fill in but I am still undecided, must make up my mind soon.

    hilstep - I think that's a very generous donation.
    tru - Clever Scampi.

Have a good Sunday, take care. XX

    Morning all

Gers, thanks, how did I miss that, doh!

Hilstep, I hope you feel better with the oramorph.

I managed to stay in bed until 7:30 today, yay.

I've fed the fish, hubby and I have a cuppa.

I got quite a lot done yesterday, sorted out hubby's huge collection of coats and fleeces for a local homeless charity, there will be 15 warmer homeless men in Reading next week.

I've kept all my coats but then I only have two, he had 21!

I'm having a free bed delivered today at some point, once it's here I can dress that room, the bed is pink but I don't need to buy anything as I already have a pink lamp, coverlet and white wicker heart decoration.

I've checked the freezer and made a meal plan to last us two weeks, so very little money will be spent and there will be less stuff in the freezer.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning (((((((((( hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Bright morning, we have had our Sunday breakfast in bed, will get up shortly and strip the bed, into the washer and out on the line. I got washing dried yesterday despite it going out late.

The tea for the over 60' s was excellent, starter, main course, dessert and then cheese and biscuits. We had wine or a soft drink with the meal, tea and coffe with a chocolate mint afterwards, excellent. OH came to join us after his bowls game and was handed a plate so we will eat it at lunchtime, we also have some leftover stuff including a piece of Stilton cheese.

The front garden is my job today, I pulled a few weeds last night and they came out easily, we have some weed killer which will go on the stubborn dandelions near the pavement. Next week is due to be warm again so need to get it sorted before the ground goes too dry.

Lamb for supper might have it with salad for a change, I can make potato salad to go with it. We have strawberries from the garden for dessert.

Time to get up, bye for now..........

Good Morning all and the sun is actually shining today and looks as though its going to warm up nicely.
last nights quiz was great fun, even though we only came forth.two late comers arrived who didn't have a seat so we said come and sit on our table One was a lovely lady of middle years :) and the other a young chap around 25 Apparently she was his landlady and not being keen on the footie had said he would come along .He was a smashing young man and very knowledgeable which helped no end .Such a change to have a youngster who was quite happy to sit with us old 'uns and chat away. The lady said he had been her lodger for about 18 months and keeps her in stitches at time .Every one was so friendly and the charity was for Street Pastors and a cancer charity so all in good causes.it was suprisingly well supported and lots of people said they were glad to get away from the wall-to-wall football (me included)
Coxy11 Glad you liked the Sittingbourne Lidls it is so clean and bright isn't it.

This afternoon I am off to Dds for dinner as DGS Ben's young lady is coming down from London to meet all the family.

Coffee morning was good yesterday I had a nice cuppa and a sneaky piece of almond and orange cake which was made apparently without flour !! not quite sure how that works but it was very nice.
Right off to sort weeks menu's out and listen to The Archers as is my Sunday morning habit :):):)

    Have a good one chums

DD and sil are collecting me at 12 to go for lunch so have looked out an outfit and about to go and wash my hair and have a shower.

Might just have time to do a quick wash of towels etc and hang it outside before we go. Have not had breakfast as we are having a lunch and will try to cook chicken, mushrooms etc for tonight on the new hob for middle dd who is popping round.

Can't believe how much washing is already done and nearly dry but 10 days or more without a kitchen will do that.

    Hilstep
I hope the oramorph is helping.

    Hester
You have been really busy and the stuff you donated will make a difference to others who need it as well as helping charity.

Hugs to all and have a good day.
