Taking my medicine

Hi all this time two years had the nightmare of all nightmares moving house.
House was sold at £360k
Mortgage left £170k intrest only 17 years
New house was £275k
Mortgage wanted 115k full repayment 14 years
Wife's credit file clean
Mine was awful, 2 defaults 18 months and 7 months and 16 different pay day loans
Broker took our case and scattered gun applications and got us loads of declines.
Took matters into my own and wrote to the md of our current lender halifax, explained that I'd made some horrendous errors but had never missed a mortgage payment in 8 years and sure a family with a smaller mortgage on full repayment is less of a risk.
Weeks of phone calls and me with like a dog with a bone we moved in 1st August 2014.
This forum was superb with advice at the time.
We just managed to secure a new rate and make regular overpayments.
We're under a £100k now.
My credit file is still a mess and will take at least another 3 years before I can even think about a new car or remortgage with some extra to say do a conservatory .
My advice to all seeking a mortgage is never give up keep pestering people and you might just get what you need.
Every year I send flowers to the lady that helped us with the mortgage at the halifax.
Every year I remind the broker who nearly ruined everything, and said I had a snowball in a microwaves chance of a mortgage with halifax.
Good luck all those trying
