starting dmp bit of advice required

Options
hi guys.

tonight i have come clean to my partner about my debt and now i am finally on the right road ( albeit bridges to mend ).

i have filled out the forms with step change with regards to starting a dmp and also canceled direct debits to loans. 1 of these loans is with Barclays (and an overdraft as well ) whom i also bank with. i have also changed all direct debits into my partners bank and will have my wages paid into her bank.

my question is that we also have a joint a/c with Barclays with the only outgoing bill being rent by direct debit and is it likely Barclays will take this money before paying the rent to offset the loan / overdraft payments even though it is from a different a/c or is it best to change this direct debit as well.

appreciate feedback. thanks

Best advice is not to use any account with a bank you owe money too, however, as your DMP has not yet been set up, they won't use the right of set off yet, your a good few months or longer away from that scenario, as you won't of broken the terms of your agreement even yet, and there are rules the bank must follow also, they can't leave you with nothing.

Future payments should be made from a non Barclays account though, just to be safe.
